Enabling Error Logging on ACE Client can assist in tracking down problems relating to messages not displaying and other faults/issues/bugs.  You will not usually have to enable error logging unless asked to do so via Spydaman Design Studios Service Desk.  This article will show you how to enable error logging, and also how to submit your error log to us.

Enabling Error Logging

  1. Open Windows Task Manager (Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC)
  2. Locate the Process called:   ACEclnt.exe
  3. Click Once on the ACEclnt.exe process and click the End Process button (You will be asked to confirm ending the process, so just accept this)
  4. Close Windows Task Manager
  5. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder where ACE Client was installed (By Default this is:  C:\Program Files\ACEmessage\Client\
  6. Right Click the file:   ACEclnt.exe.config   and select Open With -> Choose Default Program
  7. Select the Notepad application on the Open With screen, and click OK (The file will now open in Notepad)
  8. Edit the Value as shown below, changing False to True:

<setting name="Debug" serializeAs="String">
       <value>True</value>
</setting>

  1. In Notepad File->Save from the Menu and Exit Notepad
  2. Logoff the Computer, then Log back on (This restarts the ACE Client application)
  3. Follow the steps below to re-create your fault/bug/error

Re-Create the Fault/Bug/Error

Try to re-create the fault you experienced with ACE Client.  If you can try to complete this step a few times it also helps with error logging.  Once you feel that you have observed and re-created the fault:

  1. Create a new email from your email program
  2. Address it to the individual (Or Service Desk) who asked you to create the log file
  3. Attach the File:    (My Documents)\ACE Client Debug.log
  4. Send it (And any other requested information)
  5. Disable Error Logging (By Changing True to False in in step 8 at the beginning of this article

NOTE:  ACE Client will generate lots of information in the ACE Client Debug.log file.  Therefore it is important to Disable Error Logging as above when you have created the log file you need.  As this will impact performance of ACE Client if left on for normal operation.
